Recently one of Jims Mustangs and Customs customers brought us a 2014 Mustang base model in for repair. Because we also have a transmission shop, import auto repair and Mustang shop under one roof. “Abe” asked us, “what do think of salvage title cars?” My answer was simple:
Salvage title cars – small savings, big risk.
Diagnostic trouble code diagnosis:
So a check engine light comes on, do you panic? First of all at Wilson-id we offer Diagnostic trouble code diagnosis. Secondly our checkouts pinpoint the cause of the trouble code. Thirdly we solve the problem without selling you unnecessary parts. Likewise vehicles are road tested to determine if a drive-ability symptom is associated with the trouble code. A variety of check engine light settings such as a loose gas cap, evaporative system leak, random misfire or transmission component slipping are fairly common occurrences.
Suspension Repairs – Setting a customer on the straight and narrow path

Larger wheels and tires accelerate wear to your vehicle’s suspension. This means replacing the tires, shock absorbers wheel bearings and struts. In addition to tie rod ends, ball joints, sway bars and links, torsion bar. Finally the rack and pinion steering components and power steering pump. Once everything needed is installed on your vehicle it still needs a front end alignment. Then everything is back to driving straight. (more…)

Honda Civic Del Sol turbocharged – Part 2
In Part 1 of “Honda Civic Del Sol turbocharged”, Hector had a dream of turbocharging his 1995 Honda Civic Del Sol and came to Wilson Import and Domestic to help his dream car come true.
Now it’s time to make some serious progress turbocharging this Honda Civic Del Sol!
First of all we added the following parts and made them all work well together:
Mini Cooper engine no small matter
Recently a customer that we will call, “Doug” phoned us with a 2007 Mini Cooper no start problem. Something as simple as a no start condition usually means replacing a battery or alternator. Google brought us to his attention. Since we specialize in import and domestic vehicle repairs he had the vehicle towed to our shop. We thoroughly checked it out. It was determined that the engine had seized. We explained that to Doug. He asked how hard it would be to repair. I said, “Mini Cooper engine no small matter.” He chuckled because in tense matters sometimes humor can go a long way to make the situation seem less stressful. Doug told me that he had an extended warranty and hoped to take advantage of the coverage. Consequently we honor and work with most extended warranties.
Honda Civic Del Sol turbocharged
The movie The Fast and the Furious inspired many generations of car enthusiasts to want to go faster. Our customer who we will call “Hector” brought us our most recent project; it’s called the Honda Civic Del Sol turbocharged. He found us on a Google search.
Newer performance enhanced vehicles from the factory created a huge demand for aftermarket performance parts. Seems like these parts enabled personalization, more horsepower, better braking and handling. Rarely the new parts cause check engine lights to come on and created drivability issues. While most of these aftermarket parts worked well some did not. Do It Yourself (DIY) installation may have been part of the problem. We avoid these bad situations by providing known good quality parts and a lifetime of experience creating fast vehicles. (more…)
VW Dune Buggy comes alive:
Recently a customer discovered us by searching Google for Volkswagen repairs. So this blog is titled, VW Dune Buggy comes alive. Of course that’s exactly what happened. Our new customer started by asking if we could repair or replace his Webber 2 barrel carburetor. We said yes and he showed surprise. He said he knew of no places that worked on 1959 carbureted engines. Wilson has been working on all kinds of vehicles for over 30-years. Check out our Legacy motorcycle and Atv shop within our complex.
The repair process:
We like a challenge so the process begins. The small engine would not start or run therefore the carburetor is taken apart and examined. Sometimes on rare occasions the carburetor needs replacement rather than repair. This was one of those cases. Accordingly the existing fuel tank is rusty and has sediment at the bottom. This caused clogged fuel lines and damage to the carb. The solution was to replace the tank with a fuel cell. The one we selected was custom manufactured. We added a fuel gauge, braided fuel line, cut off valve, hold down brackets, air and fuel filters and a new carburetor. With fresh fuel added and the choke adjusted the VW Dune Buggy comes alive. It started and ran with the first turn of the key. (more…)

Most noteworthy event was our recent project Volkswagen engine swap. Wilson Imports and Domestics is known for precision repairs with Japanese vehicles. We also repair European vehicles like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and Domestic vehicles such as Dodge, Ford and General Motors. We have been known to make muscle cars even more muscular.
Recently a customer came in for a Volkswagen engine swap, he found us on Google. A recently purchased used VW Jetta started making noises on start up. It also had random misfire codes and the engine was stalling. Often this turbocharged 2.0 engine has problems with the timing chain tensioner. Also the timing and balance shaft chains can jump time. The camshaft crankshaft sensor or bad spark plugs can cause an engine misfire. By removing the upper and lower timing covers we observed the front of the engine. We noticed that the gear on the end of one of the balance shafts had worn and caused damage to the timing chain. One of the cylinders had low compression and there was abundant powdered metal in the oil pan and throughout the engine. The decision was made to swap the engine for a good one.
